  • 2015: New Year's Day is deadliest for alcohol-related crashes. Using the five most recent years of available fatal crash data, IIHS researchers found that every New Year's Day, an average of 70 lives were lost in crashes in which at least one driver, pedestrian or bicyclist had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08 percent or higher.   • 2014: Arrests in the United States for drug abuse violations was 1,561,231 and driving under the influence was 1,117,852. (FBI
  • 2013: Roughly 1 in 9 persons aged 12 or older (10.9 percent) drove under the influence of alcohol at least once in the past year. This corresponds to 28.7 million persons. (SAMHSA)
